Due to various interrelated deficiencies, Ludhiana at present, faces acute traffic & transportation problems. MCL has initiated various projects related to traffic and transportation. The ROB’s & flyovers are among the 9 most important ones which will ensure the smooth flow of the traffic at critical points. Numerous proposals are already in progress and new proposals have been formulated as long termequirements for improving the transport infrastructure. Construction of Elevated Road from Chand Cinema on old G.T. road up to Jagraon Bridge With the construction of this elevated ‘ROB’ the traffic from Jalandhar to Ambala and back will not have to pass through congested parts of Ludhiana,The local traffic movement will be on the road underneath this elevated bridge. The ROB with a project cost of Rs 48 crore and a length of 2.5 km, involves the use of latest construction techniques and will be one of its kinds in north India. Construction of ROB on Dhuri Railway Line The construction of the Dhuri Railway line bridge was planed and phased in lieu of mounting traffic pressure. It has length of 654 m and a height of 9.40 m from railway line. The approximate cost of the project is RTs. 9.5 crore . The construction work of the bridge has been allotted to Gammon India ltd. and is likely to be completed by July 2001. ROB OF Ludhiana Delhi Railway linenear Dhandari Kalan. The level crossing
near Dhandari Kalan station leading to an industrial focal point is traffic
hazard . This is due to the level crossing remaining closed ,most of the
time ,due to movement of train on the busy Ludhiana-Delhi line. The project
for the construction of this ROB involves a cost of Rs. 12.73 crore .The
bridge will have a length of 982 m and is expected to be operational by
October 2001. |
